Fun & easy ...Apr 21, 2007
By millhouse While I typically choose historical Christian fiction, I read Alabama on a recommendation from a friend who knows what I do & do not like, and, since I live in North Alabama, I figured, OK, why not.
What a fun read!
Maybe the characters are not the most realistic in every scenario, but these stories were romantic and enchating, and 'can't put down' dramatic.
So enchanting, in fact, that as I travel the stretch of interstate that would be just to the West of this area several times a year, I recently found myself looking over to Lookout Mountain, wishing Rockdale were up there, and tempted to drive off the primary road to see if I could find it!
Looking forward to reading more from Kay Cornelius.

Good reading!Nov 08, 2005
By Kats This book was a great one. The stories were very easy to read, filled with suspense, and I could not stop turning the pages. It was my first Kay Cornelius book, and I look forward to reading her other books, hoping they are as good as this one.

By Asenath R. Not my favourite book, but I really liked the third story. Some parts of the plots were too fast paced to be believable, but still not bad. Good descriptions of places and people made it better for me than it would have been other wise.

A DisappointmentJun 15, 2011
By Jordan S. I am not really a big fan of novellas. I prefer full stories, or, even better, a nice long series. I feel that novellas don't allow enough time to tell the story naturally or with enough depth. That said, I wanted to give Alabama a chance. Unfortunately, it was not worth it.
I have been trying to finish this book for a long time now, but it failed to capture my interest every time I picked it up. I tried to press on, but was almost painful! I started the first three stories, but I did not reach the end of any of them. The fourth, Mary's Choice, was the only one I was really interested in, because of the unique aspect of Mary being a "less than perfect figured" woman. I liked the idea of a "real" woman finding love. Unfortunately, it was also let down. I skimmed through quite a bit of the story, and I was not at all interested in the back story of the city's development. I thought it was a little creepy that one of Mary's potential suitors was her distant cousin. I don't care if it's a "southern" thing - I am from the south, and I was grossed out. I also found it annoying that every other person had the same name. Three Veronica's and two Sally's in a tiny little town? Sure, it's plausible, but in a novella, naming all the minor characters the same name is just confusing. I was so relieved when I reached the end, just so I could say I finally finished!
