5Loved this issue so much, I bought all the other volumesAug 19, 2010

What I love about the 'Calling All Cooks' cookbooks is that they contain recipes for comfort foods you had when you grew up, like for casseroles, oatmeal cookies, and corn bread. It's definitely not pretentious!

And it has several recipes for each thing, so you can pick out or combine the ones you like. That's particularly handy if you don't have some ingredient for one version and can just choose another or figure how to ad lib.

There are great recipes that combine yellow cake mixes, instant pudding and other short cut ingredients that allow you to make quick semi-pre-prepared but still homemade goodies.

Although I love that each recipe includes the names of the contributors, which makes it more personal, there's one minor downside as a result of the 'informal' presentation: they don't always include specifics, so you sometimes have to guess at sizes or amounts. So, a recipe might call for a large tub of cool whip. Is that the 8 oz, 12 oz, or 16 oz size? Or a large can of condensed milk....well, the ounce count depends on the brand.

I received volume 2 as a present, and it is the most dog-eared cookbook in my collection. So, I just bought all the other volumes!

5My FAVORITE CookbookMay 23, 2012

I have a cabinet full of cookbooks but this is my go to book. It is well broken in and dog-eared. Recently my daughter was looking for an apple pie recipe and wanted to look through the "oldest cookbook I had". I told her it's not the oldest cookbook you find in the cabinet that is the best, it's the most used cookbook where you'll find what you're looking for; and I handed her Calling All Cooks 2. Needless to say her pie turned out awesome, as has everything I have used from this book. I am about to purchase her very own copy for her as well as round out my collection of the books. There is no other book needed in my kitchen!

I received a copy of Calling All Cooks Two as a gift from my aunt in 1992. It has been used so much that I have a rubber band holding it together. I don't know why I have any other cookbooks in my kitchen because this one is the only one I ever use. There are such good receipes and also tips, old remedies, uses and solutions for issues ranging from ants to bug bites to stains. This is definitely one book that you will love and use forever!
