Not just helpful to African-American churches.Apr 23, 2002 Although the book detailed Christian education methods and issues specifically for African-American churches and groups, this book was equally helpful for churches within other demographic groupings. The book outlines specific cultural needs to be addressed when teaching African-American children, especially in environments where education has not been a top priority. Student involvment is encouraged by using the methods and ideas provided by Mr. Chism. Far less importance is placed on teacher-centered approaches than on student-centered processes, in fact exceptional arguments for Christian education being pastoral care are given. A very useful and comprehensive survey is included to assess the attitudes and needs of any congregation.
