As the boys tell their story, it becomes evident they are living two entirely different lives. Johnny is living in Tennessee with hismean-spirited aunt while Will is part of a very loving family. The story tells what happens to these brothers, the obstacles in their path to find each other are great. When Johnny runs away, Linc, a kind black man shelters him. In this dangerous world in the Georgia swamp, Johnny and Linc must confront and overcome an even greater danger: racial hatred. The story has many levels, one of the highest is the lesson that we see in others what is in ourselves and the self knowledge and insights that come about because of these experiences. | | | Product Details: | | | Author:

An inspiring and fun story, straight from the Deep SouthFeb 21, 2002
By Jim Reed If you're an eleven-year-old, you're going to love this book. If you're a forty-year-old, you're going to love this book. That's because the storyline is fun to follow, the characters seem real and quite engaging, the bad people are sometimes hypnotic, the emotions are deeply felt and simply expressed, and the alligator is hungry but likeable. It's almost impossible not to think of other great classics ostensibly written for young people but in reality bearing a message for us old fuddy-duddies, too--Huckleberry Finn, Ol' Yeller, To Kill a Mockingbird, Dandelion Wine (if you loved these books, you'll be open to enjoying this one). Try this wonderful Southern tale, the latest from popular children's author Allen Johnson Jr.
