Mobile Area Street GuidesMay 26, 2009
By G. Porecki At the moment, there are two street guides to the Mobile, Alabama area. The traditional Rand McNally and the American Map Atlas - which seems to be a new concept by a German (despite the name) publisher. The American Map Guides are the same format and very similiar. They are both fairly good, though there are some differences: - The American Map uses a different color scheme, the Rand McNally guide uses a much more well known scheme, which we are all used to. - The Rand McNally Guide has a wider coverage, however the American Map has a large scale area map of downtown (well virtually almost all the city itself actually).
As I think the normal scale is good enough, and I care more for a wide coverage then a big scale downtown and as I can't get used to the AM color scheme, I award the Rand McNally guide 5 stars and the American Map guide 4 stars. But they are all good, so you can use the above to choose.
PS: this review is posted under both products as it compares them.
